A cooperation protocol between Funchal City Council and Altice Labs was signed on the 9th of September at the Town Hall. This signing means that Altice Labs will have, in 2023, in the Funchal Cultural and Research Center, a space dedicated to research, constituting a “decentralization of the project already existing in Ribeira Brava”, as explained by the mayor of Funchal, Pedro Calado.

The mayor highlighted the importance of this cooperation with Altice, reinforcing that there has been a considerable investment in Madeira and Funchal, “with regard to modernization and innovation, especially in providing technology, both to companies and to citizens”, being this a situation that represents a “great commitment to the future”, both by Altice and by the city of Funchal. He also stressed that both the cooperation protocol and the memorandum of understanding with Fundação Altice are partnerships that occur “for the benefit of our entire community”, adding that it is a bet on “innovation and technological development, which are the future of society”.

Alcino Lavrador, General Director of Altice Labs, points out that the expansion of Altice Labs’ presence in Madeira with a new hub in Funchal reinforces the commitment to the territory, to Portugal and to open innovation. In addition to the projects already underway with several entities, others are on the near horizon, creating value in Madeira and boosting the ability to export technology made in Portugal.
