The preservation of vineyards and the identification of grape varieties are important topics in ensuring the protection of the Douro region’s natural resources and fostering the local economy. With this in mind, Quinta do Crasto, a Portuguese producer of Douro and Porto wines based in the north of Portugal, hosted the doctoral consortium “Scientia et Populum” on July 13th.

Filipe Cabral Pinto, from the Innovation Strategy and Digital department at Altice Labs, attended this event, which was characterized by its versatility since different topics were presented: “energy transition entrepreneurs in action”, “EU industrial projects”, “advanced propaedeutics”, and “moving buildings”. In addition, several students from the Electronic and Computer Engineering doctorate presented the planning of their theses.

The Altice Labs employee presented the Vinum Analytics project, which has the main goal of adding new structured and unstructured data to the Live!Green platform in order to enhance the identification of grape varieties through the use of Machine Learning methodologies applied to the vineyard. This was followed by interventions from the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro and Quinta do Crasto on the same subject. The agenda also included a networking session, during which participants had the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas about their projects.
