The 21st International Conference on Computational Science and its Applications (ICCSA 2021) took place from the 13th to the 16th of September. This conference aims to bring together researchers proposing or discussing new approaches, problems or solutions capable of shaping new trends in several areas such as Information Systems and Technologies, Urban and Rural Planning, Computational Methods, Algorithms and Scientific Application, among others. It is organized by the main Universities in Italy.

This year’s edition was held in a hybrid regime, virtual and in-person, with sessions from several researchers in the areas of Information Systems and Technologies.

Altice Labs was present through the presentation of an article written by Altice Labs’ Technology and Innovation Strategy department, Mariana Magalhães, Filipe Cabral Pinto and Cátia Raquel Oliveira, together with Rui Pedro Duarte, professor at School of Technology and Management of Viseu (ESTGV), entitled “The Role of the Smart Citizen in Smart Cities”. This article focuses on the citizen’s perspective, in order to understand the best digital approach to meet the citizen’s needs in the city and simultaneously take advantage of what the city has to offer.
