The Wireless Meeting 2018 was held on the 7th June 2018 at the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon and it was organized by Wavecom. This edition focused on smart industry and smart cities, transportation and mobility, and 5G communications. The meeting had the participation of the Secretary of State for Industry, Ana Lehmann, the Minister of the Economy, Manuel Caldeira Cabral, and the MEP Carlos Zorrinho.

The “5G Mobilizer” project was presented in the 5G panel, by project coordinator Francisco Fontes from Altice Labs. His presentation contextualized the project in what 5G is, described its organization and main lines of work, and what are the main expected results.

The project has a duration of 36 months, extending until the end of 2020. With 5 months elapsed, the work, in line with what was planned, has focused on the characterization of the state of the art, identification of relevant use cases and requirements extraction, the revision of the products and services list to be obtained, as well as the beginning of the design of a global architecture to be built and demonstrated in the context of the project.

The project, part of the Business Incentive System, Research and Technological Development, Mobilizing Programmes, has a total investment of 9.720.000 euros, being co-financed in the amount of 6.162.000 euros by Lisbon 2020 and COMPETE 2020, of Portugal 2020, in the context of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
