From the 5th to 10th March, Altice Labs received in its laboratories in Aveiro the SkyBand’s Information System director to perform tests on GPON technology, in the context of a supply consultation for fiber optic equipment.

SkyBand is a Malawi ISP that operates a WiMax network for enterprise customers and intends to migrate the access medium to GPON and Active Ethernet.

The interest in our GPON technology is mainly due to the possibility of Altice Labs equipment allowing to operate both technologies (GPON and Active Ethernet) in the same chassis.

In addition to engineering, training and support services, Skyband is interested in the active optical network equipment, OLTs and ONTs, and in the management system of this technology (AGORA).

In a first phase, SkyBand intends to develop the network in the capital – Lilongwe (1 million inhabitants). In a second phase, the plan is to cover with FTTx the second city of the country – Blantyre (1 million inhabitants) and 4 more cities where SkyBand already operates the coporate network.

It is also the goal of SkyBand to develop the residential service also using the synergies of this infrastructure.
