On the 18th January, the Sharing Cities showroom opened at Praça do Município nº 31 in Lisbon. The space belongs to the City Hall of Lisbon and it will be open during the next 4 years to share the most relevant information about what’s happening in the city within the scope of smart cities.
The Sharing Cities european project of the H2020 programme will enable the city of Lisbon to enter the universe of smart cities by implementing a set of measures that will directly benefit the citizen and will relate in a more efficient way services provided by relevant entities and companies in the city.
The Portuguese consortium is composed of: Câmara Municipal de Lisboa (CML), Empresa Municipal de Mobilidade e Estacionamento de Lisboa (EMEL), Centro de Excelência e Inovação na Indústria Automóvel (CEIIA), EDP – Distribuição – Energia S.A, LisboaEnova, Reabilita, Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and Altice Labs.
The project focuses on the promotion of energy sustainability, optimization of urban mobility and rehabilitation. These three axes will determine, in the coming years, intervention measures in strategic areas of the city. Some examples: placement of sensors that facilitate a more efficient control of public lighting and allow the monitoring of energy consumption in public buildings, installation of photovoltaic panels to promote sustainability, purchase of electric bicycles to share among citizens thus reducing the CO2 footprint and development of urban mobility management services, among others.
To coordinate this diversity of services, the Sharing Cities project proposes to develop an integrative platform that allows, on the one hand, to manage the ecosystem of solutions provided by the partners involved and, on the other hand, to aggregate and create knowledge from the information produced in the city . This platform will be open to citizens and businesses (eg start ups) who want to participate and develop new services for the city.
Altice Labs participated in the opening of the showroom and presented its IoT strategic vision and a set of exemplary applications of the smart cities concept (e.g. water consumptions dashboard and energy consumption applications). Altice Labs and CEIIA are the main technological companies of the Portuguese consortium and will be responsible for ensuring the development and maintenance of the USP (Urban Sharing Platform).
The project that started in January 2016, will last 5 years and includes, besides Lisbon, the cities of London and Milan (as major cities) and the cities of Bordeaux, Burgos and Warsaw (as follower cities).
