The Startup Weekend was held for the first time at Instituto Politécnico de Viseu, between 16 and 18 of May. PT Inovação e Sistemas was a partner in this global movement of active and responsible entrepreneurs, seeking to learn the basics of building a startup and launching a successful business.
The participants of the Startup Weekend Viseu first edition worked for 54 hours to design and produce their ideas, which were submitted to a jury composed by Benjamim Júnior (Portugal Telecom), José Costa (Polytechnic Institute of Viseu), João Paulo Gouveia (Viseu City Council), José Carlos Almeida (Dão Lafões Intermunicipal Community) and José Luís Nogueira (Visibeira Group). During the work hours, the participants had the support of the mentors João Menaia (Portugal Telecom), André Marquet (Beta-i), Carlos Rua (Polytechnic Institute of Viseu), Bruno Lamelas (Celeuma Group), José Machado (consultant and trainer) and José Albergaria (ISCA-UA).
The winning project was “Trip Dashboard” in the field of hotel management and tourism, which will be incubated for a period of half a year in which will be detailed and implemented. In second and third were the “Go Sport” and “Portuguese Mimo”.
The opening session was attended by the Mayor of Viseu, Almeida Henriques, and the President of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, Fernando Sebastião. Besides the partnership of PT Inovação e Sistemas, were also partners of this event Bluestart PT, Visabeira Group, the City Hall of Viseu, Lisbon Startup and Liberty Seguros.
Startup Weekend
Startup Weekend is a nonprofit organization based in Seattle (USA), with a network of facilitators spread across more than 200 cities around the world. It is the largest community of entrepreneurs with over 1500 events held in more than 660 cities and 120 countries.
Everyone can participate on these events, present and share their ideas. The teams are organized according to the best ideas, elected by vote. Within 54 hours, business models, programming, design and market validation are created. The event featured prominent speakers and mentors, who coordinated the teams work and motivated participants. At the end all business ideas are presented to a jury of experienced managers.
The dynamics of Startup Weekend is based on a learning experience of people with different training areas. Aims to encourage the creation of networking, transform ideas into business and thereby foster the ecosystem of innovation, entrepreneurship and creation of startups.
