From the 20th to the 22nd September took place in Munich the second edition of Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) Congress. Computing on the edge of the network is a growing trend, having as its main goal to supply services closer to its customers. Services closer to the customer drastically reduce latency and allow efficiency increase in network usage. In December 2014, ETSI created a working group, named MEC, to standardise a Framework that allows the development and promotion of this technology.

Altice Labs has been active in this area, by contributing to standardization within ETSI and by developing a prototype that allows the creation of a complete execution environment for edge services. In this event, Altice Labs (represented by Carlos Parada) spoke on the theme “Case Study: Implementing the ETSI MEC Architecture – Challenges and Lessons Learnt” and presented the development work that has been done by listing the challenges faced by Altice Labs and referring some innovative aspects in the face of the state of the art.
