On the 16th of November, the 124th TechDay @ Altice Labs took place, with the theme “Metaverse Technology and Visions”.

The session began with a brief introduction to the speakers by Fausto de Carvalho from Altice Labs’ Innovation Strategy and Digital department.

The first speaker was Leonel Morgado from INESC TEC / Universidade Aberta, who in his presentation “The Metaverse: what was, is, and can be” framed the current ecosystem, looking at its evolution over the last decades and providing clues to how it will evolve.

Then, Fridolin Wild from the Open University UK addressed “Reality adaptive experiences”, to highlight the paradigm shift underway, from application users to experience participants where functionality merges with the environment and can be experienced.

To conclude, Verónica Orvalho from Didimo presented “Digital Humans in Digital Spaces”, introducing the most outstanding aspects of the technology, lifting the veil on the roadmap of its realistic, scalable and high quality avatars.

At the end there was also a short but lively debate between the speakers, where several questions asked by the participants on this transversal theme were addressed. This theme is highly topical and of growing importance for the scientific community in general and, as such, for Altice Labs.
