The GAPOTT project – Automatic recordings and Advertising Over-The-Top (2013/34009) has been successfully completed and having reached all the goals.
The GAPOTT was an innovative project that enhanced PT Inovação’s know-how in the area of TV and content distribution networks. This was an R&D project co-funded by the QREN COMPETE and IAPMEI programs developed by PT Inovação together with the Telecommunications Institute.
This project aimed to create new products and solutions in the area of live TV delivery and timeshift through the optimized use of OTT (Over The Top) solutions of adaptive streaming, enabling the use of this technology to an equivalent quality level as the traditional IPTV offerings. It also wanted to intervene in the automatic segmentation of content, so that they are fractionated at the right place and that it can identify and remove the implicit advertising to save storage and create alternative business models, with the possibility of introducing new, more contextualized and relevant advertising.
As a result of this new project there are new products such as the Module of ArQoS Probe, DIPR and Automatic Enhanced Recordings.
The main results of the research carried out under the GAPOTT project were presented at the Tech 79 Day held on 15 July at the Amphitheater of PT Inovação.
The opening of the session fell to Pedro Carvalho who presented a concise analysis of the evolution of audio and video distribution models as well as the changes that have been felt on the level of television consumption. It was also unraveled some of the challenges that new OTT approaches put in the planning of network.
This was followed by the presentation of Bernardo Cardoso, of SRP, which focused on GAPOTT project in detail. Laura and Alberto Paiva Correia, both also of SRP, integrate the project into two specific aspects and explained, respectively, the mechanisms underlying the detection of spots and advertising blocks.
João Nogueira, of SRP, presented the framework of GAPOTT project in the context of the European project Celtic called NOTTS – Next Generation Over-The-Top Multimedia Services. Automatic recordings were the last subject presented by Susana Sargento, of the Aveiro Telecommunications Institute, who explained how is the analysis of consumption and João Nogueira approached its optimization.
In the final session were made some statements of GAPOTT project. The closure was given by João Nogueira who thanked the participation of the various speakers and their respective contributions to the project’s success. The session was moderated by Fausto de Carvalho.
