On January 25th, the Electronics, Telecommunications and Computing Department of the University of Aveiro celebrated its 50th anniversary with the event “Computer Engineering – what are the future challenges?”. Pedro Carvalho represented Altice Labs as a member of the Innovation Strategy and Digital department.
In a round table discussion, which involved Computer Engineering students (Bachelor’s and Master’s), professors, and three invited companies, including Altice Labs, the subject “Partnerships in Education” was debated.
Some questions related to this subject were addressed, namely the company’s expectations regarding the collaboration with the university’s department and with the Master’s in Computer Engineering; the quality of the education and training provided to the Master’s students – what needs to change; how to assist both the students and the university in transitioning from student to intern to company employee; which fields of Computer Engineering training are considered to be most relevant for companies; which are the biggest challenges for Portuguese companies in the current job market, and how to increase and improve university-company collaboration.
It was an extremely interesting and helpful debate for everyone involved.
