The kick-off session of the “Aveiro 5G Challenges” programme took place on the 16th of June at the auditorium of the Aveiro Exhibition Park, an initiative promoted in the context of  the Aveiro STEAM CITY project (UIA03-084) which aims to support and promote innovative, technology-based projects in the area of ​​5G technologies. The ten finalists of the programme, from Portugal, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, Italy and the United Kingdom, participate in this initiative and will develop their projects on Aveiro’s 5G testbed – developed by Altice Labs with the support of Ericsson – until October 2020.

The session was attended by representatives of the various startups, on site and remotely, who presented their projects, covering application areas ranging from health, autonomous deliveries and leisure. The presentation of the 5G infrastructure and the testbed services technological platform were made by engineers Francisco Fontes and João Bastos, from Altice Labs.

The City Councillor for Entrepreneurship, João Machado, welcomed the finalist teams and Aveiro’s Mayor, Engineer Ribau Estêves, ended the session with some words of encouragement to the participants.
