Altice Labs promoted, from July to September, its summer internship program for students from national and international universities. These internships are part of Altice Labs’ proximity strategy to universities as a management and innovation model, and provide the opportunity  to work on projects that allow to gain knowledge in leading areas and, at the same time, to make themselves known to a high potential audience. They also provide the opportunity to develop small creative projects that will enable students to acquire useful skills for the future academic course.

It was precisely in this last purpose that Future Labs took on particular importance, having welcomed four students whose projects they worked on, in a more creative and experimental approach, allowed them to gain knowledge on the latest, mostly low-cost, technologies. These three months spent at Altice Labs were an opportunity for these students to acquire important know-how for their academic journey.

At an international level, from the École d’Ingénieurs-ES Généralistes (ESIGELEC – France), Stian Poisson, Thomas Przedborski and Barnabé Louvet carried out their internships as part of the academic program of their courses. Stian Poisson worked on the FL-Drone project, which aimed to automate the management of private spaces using DJI drones, Cloud Vision API and Google Cloud Platform. Thomas Przedborski, in the FL-Robotics project, developed an experience of balancing an inverted pendulum and another one  of a balancing a ball on a board, using Lego Mindstorms, Raspeberys Pi, Arduinos and Computer Vision, in order to demonstrate the effect of IP communication networks on the remote control of devices, justifying the need for low latencies, such as 5G networks. In the FLabot project, Barnabé Louvet printed in 3D a small chatbot based on Raspberry Pi, integrating Google Assistant voice interaction features and a specialized dialog mode on Altice, using API.AI technology.

At a national level, from the School of Technology and Management of Lamego, José Durães completed his internship on the theme of Home Automation using an arduino (WeMoS) for blackout remote control with the use of temperature and light sensors and developed, simultaneously, a Web application.

Still from Portuguese universities, but more focused on practical issues of the departments where they were integrated, Altice Labs carried out two internships that allowed students to obtain practical knowledge that will enrich their academic and professional experience. Catarina Chaves, from the University of Aveiro, a student of the Industrial Engineering and Management course, carried out her internship in Logistics, in order to obtain knowledge about the process of Equipment Logistics of the company and Production Planning , as well as acquiring practical experience in the area of Component Storage and Packaging and Equipment Expedition for the client. André Santos, from the University of Coimbra, a Computer Engineering student, carried out his internship in User Experience and Security integrating the usability and security testing team to the new Fiber Gateways webGUIs under development at Altice Labs.
