Altice Labs sponsored the 2nd Commit Porto 2016 Conference that took place on the 2nd July at the FEUP premises, in Porto.

The Commit Porto 2016 is a conference organized by the FEUP’s Association of Former Computer Engineering Students which, in the words of the organization “gathers professionals that face challenges in software development with the latest technologies”.The event’s second edition had speakers from diverse companies such as Spotify, Farfetch, Cloudware, Blip, Mindera, Critical Manufacturing, Facebook, Doist, GetYourGuide, SiftForward and Plantir.

The presentations panel addressed several topics: the use of Hadoop in metadata distribution, what type of problems can be found when using AngularJS and proposed solutions, how to make Continuous Delivery, what are the problematics in management and scheduling of releases related to the use of Scala as a programming language. The discussion also covered topics such as classification and feeding of Facebook News Feed, how to use functional JavaScript and what are the differences in developing for Android 5.0.

According to Paula Cravo, from the Operations Support Systems area, the event “is an excellent opportunity to spread the word about Altice Labs in the IT developers’ community, considering the high adherence of computer engineering students and recent graduates. It’s very important to us to present ourselves as an attractive and dynamic technological company in order to captivate the attention of this new generation pf programmers, very active and up to date with new technologies. In addition to that, the topics in discussion and the invited speakers, allow us to reassess our technological position because many of the presentations focus on technical aspects that concern us at Altice Labs. It’s interesting to compare our difficulties with the ones felt by other companies and findind out they are very similar. It’s even more interesting to know and evaluate the solutions found by each company to overcome those difficulties.
