On the 8th, 9th and 10th November, MEO marked its presence as a sponsor at Web Summit and was responsible not only for the communications infrastructures but was also an exhibitor, in a reference stand at FIL’s pavillion 2, in Lisbon.
At MEO’s stand the focus was on these areas: MEO Games, Cloud PT, healthcare applications, platforms and solutions for IoT, 4.5G network demonstration, Global Connect convergent communications solution, MEO’s new Enter programme that supports startups, disclosure of the PT Innovation Award and an area dedicated to PIC Advanced, a partner startup form Aveiro, where there was a presentation of its PIC – Photonic Integrated Circuit.
Altice Labs was present in the stand throughout the entire conference, actively contributing to the demonstrations in the healthcare area and promoting PT Innovation Award.
The high point was MEO’s 4.5G future technology presentation and demonstration, using Huawei radio equipment and NG-PON2 technology from Altice Labs.
NG-PON2 technology entirely developed by Altice Labs was used in a pioneer way in a demonstration of a mobile network with speeds up to 1.7 Gbps (5 times superior to current speeds), supporting connectivity between the mobile stations and the network core.
The NG-PON2 technology with its high-bandwidth provides more bandwidth to wireless connections and allows fixed and mobile access convergence.
The stand was quite successful, taking into account the number of visitors that showed interest throughout the three days of the event.
Web Summit 2016 seen by the visitors
This event definitely impressed by its size. The major difficulty encountered at this event was to select the most interesting themes in the gigantic existing offer. At the event’s several stages there were almost non-stop presentations, round tables, talks and even demonstrations that capture the audience’s attention.
The main presentations and discussion sessions took place at MEO’s stage, where some of the biggest names of this event marked their presence, despite the fact that, most of the time, the sessions were short and the theme was superficially approached.
At the other more thematic stages, it was possible to watch more focused and detailed sessions, allowing to discover the best of what is being done in specific contexts, such as robotics and automotive industry, content production, creative areas or even a reflection about the future of societies.
Another component of the event was the presence of a set of exhibitors at the three FIL pavillions, almost all of them big representatives of their business area, which allowed to have a more general overview of the technological offers.
Finally, it was possible to contact several dozen young companies, the so-called startups, that effusively showed their ideas and products, with a great interaction capacity with potential investors. It was really impressing to realize that the contact with someone, investor or any company leader, was within the distance of a prior contact on the event’s app.
