Paulo Firmeza, General Manager of Altice Labs, attended the event ‘+50 years Innovating Portugal,’ part of the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of the University of Aveiro (UA), on May 28, 2024. The event took place at the Águeda Arts Center and aimed to promote the sharing of cooperation experiences between companies and reflect on ways to enhance the impact of universities in the future.

After the opening session, Paulo Firmeza took the stage as a representative of the company with the longest history of collaboration with the University of Aveiro. During his speech, he highlighted the various innovation projects developed by Altice Labs in collaboration with UA over the five decades, emphasizing tangible results and concrete examples that show how this partnership continues to benefit and impact society through the development of new products. Among the examples mentioned are the 1st broadband mobile terminal, CET-PAD (Packet Assembler & Disassembler), Radio over Fiber Optics system, and SAPO Labs@UA (Sapo Campus).

Lastly, Paulo Firmeza also highlighted the creation of the AlticeLabs@UA laboratory in July 2016, through a protocol signed between the UA Rectorate and Altice Labs. This laboratory is physically located at the Department of Communication and Art (DeCA) facilities, with the purpose of promoting and developing a set of academic and scientific projects in collaboration.

Altice Labs’ presence at this event underscores not only a history that intertwines the two institutions but also a continuous commitment to innovation and joint development.
