On October 25, MEO Empresas organized the seminar “Technology, the future now” in Funchal, with the participation of Altice Labs. The world is changing, and technology plays a fundamental role in this transformation, therefore the focus of this seminar was on sharing knowledge about the latest trends in the areas of artificial intelligence applied to cybersecurity, data analytics, and advanced connectivity.

The event brought together 14 stands from partner companies of MEO Empresas, with an endless array of solutions to anticipate the future. On the seminar’s agenda were 10 major technological topics, presented by twenty speakers:

  • How technology enhances the experience of customers and citizens;
  • AI at the service of cybersecurity: an integrated approach to network security (OT/IT), applications, data and users;
  • How does artificial intelligence expand human capacity?
  • Personalized and unique experiences applied to customer service;
  • How to turn interactive spaces into a unique user experience?
  • The importance of data analytics in customer knowledge;
  • How remote monitoring positively impacts people’s lives;
  • Advanced connectivity – WiFi 6.0 and 5G;
  • Data Center as a service, the world is a data infrastructure;
  • End-to-end connectivity and security in a multi-cloud environment.

Pedro Carvalho, from the Innovation Strategy and Digital department, moderated the first panel with special guests Pedro Calado, President of Câmara Municipal do Funchal (Funchal City Council), and Roberto Santa Clara – CEO of the Savoy Group. The panel discussed how technology enhances the experience of customers and citizens, addressing technological projects within the scope of smart cities that improve people’s lives; the importance of technology in the evolution and modernization of CMF services; the future of tourism in the light of the visitor’s real and virtual/digital experience, and the mix that technology allows; the main challenges in the evolution of the digital experience of clients, among other subjects.

Pedro Carvalho, from the Strategy and Innovation Directorate (EID), moderated the first panel, which had as special guests Pedro Calado, President of the Funchal City Council (CMF), and Roberto Santa Clara – CEO of the Savoy Group. Ana Margarida Almeida, from the Innovation Strategy and Digital department, participated in a panel on Digital Health, where she highlighted the strategic importance of this area for Altice Labs. She began by giving a brief explanation of the history of Medigraf and SmartAL, delving into how the Connected Home Program will create opportunities to develop innovative remote-care and non-invasive monitoring solutions through accessible means (for example such as Wi-Fi Sensing/Motion), as well as amplifying SmartAL’s functionalities. She also highlighted how AI can play a role in this area, particularly in consultation/clinical practice scenarios and in the field of epidemiological studies.

Among the speakers were Nuno Nunes, Chief Sales Officer B2B (CSO) of Altice Portugal, who opened the event, Bruno Motta from the Cyber Warfare area of Altice Portugal, Jorge Sequeira, Commercial Director of Madeira, who closed the forum, and Paulo Rego, Product and Pre-Sales Director, who acted as the moderator.
