As part of the consortium developing the Portuguese Quantum Communications Infrastructure (PTQCI) and a long-standing partner of the Institute of Telecommunications (IT), Altice Labs participated in the Secure Quantum Network demonstration in Aveiro on April 24, 2025. Organized by IT’s Quantum Communications Research Group and the University of Aveiro, the event featured a pilot version of the network and highlighted the transformative potential of quantum technologies in secure communications.

Rui Calé, from the Innovation Strategy and Communication division, presented the Software Defined Network approach adopted for PTQCI and provided an update on the project’s progress. Margarida Almeida, Altice Labs’ Innovation Strategy and Communication Director, also attended, representing Altice Labs’ General Director, Paulo Firmeza.

Quantum transformation is opening new opportunities to innovate and redefine the parameters of digital security. Alongside its partners, Altice Labs aims to lead this shift. The demo network, which includes one of its five nodes installed at Altice Labs’ headquarters, serves as tangible proof of the vast potential of quantum technologies and reinforces the company’s drive to be at the forefront of their exploration.

Altice Labs remains focused on advances in quantum communications, particularly Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), as part of its mission to build next-generation secure communication solutions – leveraging over 50 years of expertise in telecommunications networks.
