The Informatics Students National Meeting (ENEI) is one of the largest events in the technology area in Portugal bringing together a large number of informatics students from all universities in the country. It is known for its quality and diversity of themes and activities and has as a priority the interaction between participants and companies, as well as socializing, sharing of experiences and knowledge among all present.
This year, ENEI was held at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia in Coimbra (ISEC), from the 13th to 15th April and Altice Labs, in partnership with Inova-Ria, participated during the three days of the event, with the attendance of the following people: Gabriela Moura, Pedro Carvalho, Paulo Margaça, Marta Esteves and Frederico Carvalho (Altice Labs@Viseu) who presented a demonstration of the City Gateway. On the 13th, the Networking and Security topic was addressed, in a presentation led by Pedro Carvalho, responsible for the management of the Innovation Ecosystem area in the Altice Labs Innovation and Technology Strategy department. Pedro Carvalho addressed some ideas on how mankind could use ICTs applied to cities to make them better and more sustainable.
“The official figures for projections of city population growth in the coming decades are overwhelming. According to the World Bank, by 2045 the number of people living in large urban settlements will grow 1,5 times to about six billion. By 2050, 68% of the population will be urban, more than 80% of world GDP will be generated in cities that will consume 2/3 of all energy produced in the world and produce more than 70% of the world’s greenhouse gases. Considering this scenario, it becomes obvious that all technological resources currently available will be essential to help humanity feed, optimize, manage and control these cities of the future. We will need Smart Cities to survive. In this communication, we will try to present and discuss some ideas about how people can use ICTs applied to cities to make them better places, highlighting the opportunities that exist here for professionals in this area”.
In addition to this presentation, topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Internet of Things, Mobile Development and Web Development have taken over the ENEI 2019 programme, allowing students and other participants to get acquainted with the current issues and have a perspective on the future technology challenges, providing moments of networking and socializing between all these lectures.
