Altice Labs and PT Empresas participated in a national event that gathered around 2000 students from several schools of the country which main purpose was to present the “Bright Minds… for Military Tourism” Ideas Contest.

This event, organized by the Portuguese Government, through the Ministry of National Defence, and in partnership with the University of Aveiro, took place in São Jacinto, Aveiro, at the 10th Infantry Regiment (IR10), on the 16th November.

The “Bright Minds… for Military Tourism” Ideas Contest identifies and incorporates a set of goals, with focus on the promotion of creativity and innovative solutions for the Military Tourism area in Portugal and on the development of new management and planning paradigms for the tourism sector, that, taking into account its increasing demand, will generate approaches on the supply side in order to promote people, culture, heritage and economical, social and territorial development.

With the presence of Dr. Marcos Perestrello, Secretary of State of National Defence, the event, managed and coordinated by Major João Loura from São Jacinto’s 10th Infantry Regiment, was organized in several activities of physical nature and of psychological and emotional concentration at the Military Base, and presented a series of Permanent Exhibitions about Military Equipment and New Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

The Exhibition about new information and communication technologies was coordinated by Altice Labs and included, among its guests, several technological startups in partnership with InovRia Association as well as with InovaRia itself.

In this exhibition space, Altice Labs presented a set of innovative technological solutions to its nearly 2000 visitors, namely: modern solutions of FTTx GPON network and telematic network, IoT solutions (waste management and energy efficiency), SmartAL – an healthcare solution and the disclosure of the PT Innovation Award.

InovRia and its partners presented a set of very differentiated technological innovations with Hologram solutions and virtual and augmented reality applications (from the GEMA company), Sailing Tracking, with training and in competition boats management through the application DigitalWind (from the MAISIS company), access Control and vending machines management(from the Micro I/O company) and critical parameters monitoring of liquids during the production process (from the WatGrid company).

Apart from InovRia partners, it must be emphasized the assistance given by the Sailing Academy of Sporting Club of Aveiro/ Academic Association of University of Aveiro that collaborated with the Military Tourism initiative, by providing a boat from the Club’s Optimist Class fleet, a boat that was used to present the product “PLTrackers” that allows to visualize sailing regattas online and in realtime, through the assembly of tracking devices on sailing boats.

In its turn, PT Empresas has done what has been regarded as a truly outstanding work by the organization, ensuring all the communications of the event. Armando Rodrigues’s team, from the B2B Operations Direction (BOD), designed, installed and made sure the entire infrastructure for fixed and mobile network was kept operational by reinforcing the mobile network with an installation of 4G service at São Jacinto’s website; the hertzian beams amplification between S.Bernardo and S.Jacinto, the fibre optics installation inside IR10, the installation of 1 Gigabit circuit with 2 connectivities 100M/100M, the installation of 6 Wi-Fi hotspots of free Internet access for 2000 attendees and the installation of a wired network connection for Altice Labs and their partners demonstrations.

According to Arnaldo Santos and Pedro Carvalho from Altice Labs, the participation of Altice Labs was extremely positive because it allowed to emphasize the technological innovation capacity and to consolidate the relevance of their solutions.
