Altice Labs attended the BASE Project seminar – “BAnana SEnsing” in Funchal, on March 28th. This project aims to promote precision agriculture in banana cultivation, optimizing the production process of Madeira bananas, a world reference product.

In this project, Altice Labs was responsible for developing the “Live!Green” platform, which collects real-time sensor data from multiple pieces of equipment, duly selected and installed by Altice Labs, with the data then being processed using artificial intelligence algorithms. The Live!Green platform belongs to the “Live!” ecosystem family of products, which includes different verticals.

The preliminary results of the work carried out by the Altice Labs team were presented by Nuno Silva and Gonçalo Machado, from the Innovation Strategy and Digital department, and Iúri Viveiros, from the Network and Platform Services department.

Humberto Vasconcelos, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development, was among the many guests, and noted that “this research work not only aims to improve the quality of the product, but also to anticipate the threats posed by climate change, such as the emergence of new diseases and lack of water. We are now going to take a step forward and move on to a second phase of this project, for the continued valorization of the Madeira banana, offering training to our farmers, to increase the notoriety of a product that is unique.”

The BASE Project – “BAnana SEnsing”, started in July 2021 and ended in June 2023. The Banana Sector Management Company (GESBA) was the main promoter of this project, which was co-financed by PRODERAM 2020 and had Altice Labs, the Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation (ARDITI) and the University of Madeira as partners.
