From the 10th to 12th October, at Aveiro Exhibition Park, Altice Labs, in the context of the “5G Mobilizer” P2020 project that leads, was represented at TechDays through several initiatives:
– Organized the project’s first workshop (10th October) with a presentation of the main technical results already achieved. Altice Labs presented its work in the area of 5G radio (CRAN) and transport (xHaul) over xPON networks;
– Organized the 5G session (11th October), where several practical applications of 5G, mainly in cities, were presented, complemented by european regulatory and strategic aspects. Altice Labs, represented by Francisco Fontes, from the Technology and Innovation Strategy department, opened the panel with a project description presentation.
During the 3 days of the event, 9 5G demonstrations were carried out permanently with real components already developed under the project, using Altice Labs and the Telecommunications Institute computational infrastructure, and a 5G network installed on site by Altice Labs and Ericsson, under the Aveiro STEAM City project.
In addition to these initiatives, Filipe Cabral Pinto, from the Technology and Innovation Strategy department, contextualized and moderated the session “Governance of Smart Cities” on the first day of TechDays, in Aveiro. The impact of digital transformation on societal evolution and the need for city transformation to respond to new life forms were discussed, placing communities at the center of their concerns. The session addressed the risks and advantages associated with Smart City solutions in day-to-day management of urban centers. Issues related to the promotion of innovation, financing, technology impacts, data management and use or quality of life were addressed by the different speakers of the panel. The session was attended by representatives of the municipalities of Barcelona and Cascais, Ericsson and Columbia University of the United States.
