PT Inovação and Altice Labs are the same company since January 20.

Based in Aveiro, Altice Labs will be the nerve center leading the innovation agenda for all Altice Group’s operations. This is a clear sign of trust in PT’s excellence and capability.

Altice Labs now shares PT Inovação’s DNA, the same vocation for innovation and for the development of new solutions, technologies and trends in the area of telecommunications.

In the birth place of the first prepaid service in the world and stage for many other innovative launches is born the headquarters of innovation for all Altice’s operations worldwide.

“Portugal has an exceptional culture of innovation and Portugal Telecom is an example to the world. That is why we will, of course, build Altice Labs from Portugal”, states Patrick Drahi, Altice’s Chairman and Founder.

Portugal Telecom is a symbol of innovation in service of the economy, the country and all Portuguese people. With Altice, this innovation will be enhanced, multiplied and put to use around the world, “says Armando Pereira, PT’s Chairman and Altice’s Cofounder. “Here in Altice Labs, as throughout the country, our investment will foster training, knowledge, research and innovation. In Portugal, our commitment is to offer the best, today and tomorrow.”

But this research and development center will not be restricted to Portugal. With the nerve center in Aveiro, Altice Labs will have poles in France, Israel, Dominican Republic and United States.

With the mission to promote the innovation process through the transformation of knowledge into competitive advantages for the Altice Group, this laboratory “will be at the forefront of the technological research and development and will export solutions and products to 35 countries worldwide, benefiting more 200 million people, “says Paulo Neves, CEO of PT.

For Alcino Lavrador, Altice Labs General Manager, this represents a new challenge in the long journey that began in 1950. “We have started a new chapter, with a new group, which will give us a huge market opportunity but will also test our capability. Therefore, this is an opportunity we want to grasp but which will surely present us many challenges.”

Manuel Caldeira Cabral, minister of Economy, was present at Altice Labs launch and stressed that Altice Group’s investment in Portugal and in PT is an undeniable sign of confidence. “This investment, focused on growth, shows the trust that international companies put in Portugal, in its know-how and ability to do.

A global project within Altice Group

Altice Labs is part of Altice Group innovation strategy and Portugal was identified as “having the greatest potential”, explains Alexandre Fonseca, PT’s CTO and Altice Labs Executive Manager. This project encompasses a total of 1000 engineers, 650 of them in Portugal. “In a few months, around the world, Portuguese engineers will be developing, researching, innovating and building the world along with other engineers from Altice Group”, says Paulo Neves.
