Following the decentralization strategy, Altice Labs Açores was inaugurated yesterday in Terceira Island, a new research, innovation and development hub in the region. With the opening of this new hub, Altice Labs intends to promote the creation of a local network of technological and scientific partners for the development of local projects with a high profile of innovation, replicability and internationalization, and the creation of highly specialized local competence centers, that can be used in its various products that are exported to the whole world.

The Altice Labs hub in Azores is part of the “Terceira Tech Island” initiative, a technological hub promoted by the Regional Government of Azores and is an extension of Altice Labs itself that positions this region as a lever for talent attraction, knowledge and innovation export.

In addition to integrating the Terceira Tech Island Project, Altice Labs also has a strong connection with Nonagon – São Miguel Science and Technology Park. This year, Altice Labs engineers and researchers mentored several startups installed at Nonagon, helping them in their growth process and in approaching the market.

Altice Labs is also a strategic partner of the Azores Digital Hub, coordinated by Nonagon in conjunction with the Regional Directorate for Science and Technology, and which seeks to constitute itself as a structure that provides technological expertise and experimentation infrastructures, in order to increase and boost the digital transformation in the various economic sectors, directly or indirectly related to tourism.

“Altice Labs, as ‘crown jewel’ of innovation of the Altice Group, has paved the way for the main trends of the future with disruptive products, services and solutions, now giving life to yet another project that will contribute to the development of the innovation ecosystem in Azores: the Altice Labs Açores hub”, were the words of Alexandre Fonseca at the inauguration of the new Altice Labs hub in Terceira Island, Azores.

The Laboratory already has 11 collaborators who participate in the development teams of Altice Labs in several product lines: internet television service (IPTV) – interactive applications and OTT (Apple TV and Android TV); MEO Cloud; Smart WiFi solution that allows adding intelligence in the management of connectivity at home, providing better quality of service, greater speed and a better user experience; automatic preventive and reactive diagnosis of service failures; and SmartAL – remote monitoring of people by formal or informal caregivers.
