The day began with a detailed presentation on the history and operation of this Data Center, one of the largest in Europe and one of the most sustainable in the world. Engineer Manuel Macedo, responsible for the Data Center infrastructure in Covilhã, spoke from a technical and architectural perspective, emphasizing aspects such as security level, reliability, and sustainability. He also mentioned that the Data Center holds LEED certification – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, an internationally recognized certification based on a building’s environmental merit.
Following this explanation, a guided tour of the building ensued. Altice Labs’ employees were able to visit the crisis room/War room, overlooking the NOC (Network Operation Center), TOC (Technology Operation Center), and SOC (Security Operation Center); the building’s exterior view (33 meters high); the generator room; the UPS room; the battery room; IT rooms; and the freecooling units (cooling systems).
