The 2023 edition of the World Data League began in April and includes the participation of Altice Labs employees, namely from the Operations Support Systems, Network and Platform Services, and Innovation Strategy and Digital departments.
This is an international competition that annually brings together the best minds in data science to solve real problems and create safer, more sustainable, and more mobile cities and communities.
The two competing teams managed to advance to the semi-finals, initially facing the challenge of “determining the main mobility flows in the city of Lisbon based on data from mobile devices” and proposing measures to improve the situation. At the semi-final stage, they faced a new challenge related to biodiversity in the Avencas Marine Protected Area. The competing teams had access to specific data from this protected area and the aim was to develop solutions to prevent the short- and long-term impact on the development of endangered and invasive species.
Only the top 5 teams will compete in the final stage of the World Data League and Altice Labs is represented in the final by Maria Manuel Castro, Ricardo Filipe, Rodrigo Ferreira and Eduardo Vicente. As in all competitions, there are prizes for the best and we’re rooting for ours.
