“The world is changing before our eyes, every day! On the one hand, the increasing and urgent need for constant access to information, for the continuous services availability, means that traditional interaction models are quickly becoming obsolete. On the other hand, globalization has caused companies to suddenly stop having only national competitors and customers. We thus see a transformation (and revolution!) in the way that interactions in society take place, from physical to digital; as the needs of consumers become increasingly complex and demanding, requiring not only process automation but also the change and suitability of business models and, above all, the experience provided to them. Increasingly dynamic and fast, so is this transformation, the digital transformation of our day. Based on technology, digital transformation takes hold of its immense possibilities and uses them as an accelerator to increase its impact and reach.”

This was the motto for the 99th Tech Day that took place last 28th November, at the PCI – Science and Innovation Park, in Ílhavo, which focused on the theme of digital transformation, in which it consists and what can boost it.

For this session, the last one of 2018, Pedro Ruivo, Professor and Researcher of NOVA IMS, was invited to discuss the digital transformation in companies, addressing issues such as the reasons why companies should embrace the digital transformation, how they can do it, and which companies are making this transformation.

There was also the presence of Nuno Roso, Director of Digital Services (OSS/BSS, Cloud & Core) at Ericsson Portugal, who talked about digital telcos, dealing with issues such as customer expectations changes, advanced analytics and data automation, networks transformation, with virtualization, 5G and IoT, etc. Nuno Roso also presented the key factors for digital transformation success, according to Ericsson.

The session ended with a discussion panel, moderated by Mário Rui Costa, from Altice Labs’ Technological Coordination and Innovation department, where it was discussed, among other topics, the digital massification, the digital maturity of portuguese companies and TELCOs in particular, the need to rationalize its services catalog and how TELCOs should transform and find their place in this ecosystem of diffuse borders.
