The 92nd Tech Day was held on the 18th October, at Altice Labs’ amphitheater, under the theme “Microservices and continuous integration, powered by agile methodologies”.

Ademar Aguiar, from FEUP, presented a keynote on agile methodologies and how they can help software development teams to distinguish between the essential and accidental complexity and how the teams can handle the first and reduce the second. He also addressed the importance of pattern detection in both team management and development, that is, recurring problems with solutions that are admittedly best for solving them.

Bruno Baptista from Tomitribe followed with the theme “Fast development interactions and microservices”. In this presentation, and using a demonstration, he explained Tomitribe’s methodology, which, having all its resources dispersed throughout the world, makes use of microservices to optimize its development process, not neglecting the iterativity and constant communication between all elements of the teams. It was also emphasized that mixed teams, made up of senior and junior resources, can be an asset when disruptive approaches are desired in which the most recent elements in the team contribute with alternative visions to the proposals of the older elements, usually focused in functionalities with known solutions.

After the presentations, a panel discussion moderated by José Bonnet, from Altice Labs, was held with the participation of both speakers and the audience, whose purpose was to know better  the benefits of microservices and agile methodologies, bearing in mind Altice Labs’ needs.
