“Portugal has one of the best and most advanced pay-tv services of the world. Given the existence of several players, very active in the market, the competition is fierce in terms of introduction of new features and services. In order to envision our new products and services offer, in the area of tv and entertainment, it’s important to have moments in which ideas can be exchanged based in scenarios of innovative demonstrations and technological trends.” With this motto and under the theme “MEO TV Service: Vision 2020”, the 86th Tech Day took place on the 12th July, at Altice Labs.
With an overture and keynote by Bernardo Cardoso, from DIT (Digital, Internet and Television), this Tech Day aimed to present a set of proofs of concept and studies that gave a glimpse of what can be available at MEO in 2020. Herlander Santos and Hugo Dias, both from DIT, presented the latest trends on new interaction models and new devices. Before the coffee break, Bernardo Cardoso made another contribution, this time he talked about two exploratory projects from Altice Labs: Streamcam, which is expected to be a Telecom’s “top-notch” product that combines 3G/4G, WiFi, Livestream and Cloud in a single device, and HoloLens, still at a very early stage.
The second part of the event was filled with two presentations from MEO. Jorge Rosa, from DTV, began by addressing the media and entertainment trends and closed the presentation with a global vision of what can be expected from MEO. On his turn, João Ferreira, from DEO, explored the present and future of TV platforms, making clear what are the necessary ingredients to MEO’s continued success.
