Telco Transformation Powered by Virtualization was the subject of the 85th Tech Day, which took place at Altice Labs in Aveiro, on June 8th.
Technologies and architectures for infrastructure virtualization are now the largest impact force in the evolution of the communications industry. In the last decade they acquired the necessary maturity to support the massification of a new infrastructure paradigm for information systems of an operator, the phenomenon of “IT Clouds” and large Data Centers.
Beside the fact that there’s still a long way to go in “IT Cloud”, especially in process optimization by integrating DevOps practices, it is on the network that there are major challenges, in particular the creation of a vision of medium term for the new architecture of services based on virtualization and the definition of a strategy for its implementation.
Opening with Luís Miguel Silva, and Keynote in charge of José Palma and Maximilian Xavier where was given the MEO Vision for the creation of a new architecture of services and IT leveraged on virtualization was followed by a presentation on “Strategy and Network Virtualization Projects in MEO “, by José Cananão. It was followed by the presentation of the “Strategy and Network Virtualization Projects in SFR”, made by Etienne Bermond.
Francois Duthilleul spoke about Red Hat’s product strategy for its support solutions for virtualization of IT and network.
In the second part of the event, there was a panel discussion where were discussed issues like what are the challenges/obstacles of technological, business and organizational nature which has brake a most effective implementation of the hype in IT and network, which opportunities in business development and most relevant operational developments.
