Before applying, please review the list of innovation areas of interest to Alticelabs@UA.

Describe opportunity to be addressed, innovative aspects or problem to be solved.
Quantify and describe the list of deliverables, products/prototypes, scientific papers, reports, and other results to be obtained.
Identify and briefly describe each phase of the project and follow up with a detailed fortnightly schedule. The duration of academic projects is a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months.
Identify the responsible researcher associated with the application. Other needs may be indicated, namely software, hardware and communication resources, which will be made available according to the capacity of the AlticeLabs@UA laboratory.

AlticeLabs@UA is a research lab, based at the University of Aveiro and installed at the Department of Communication and Art, which results from the extensive experience of collaboration between the University of Aveiro and Altice Labs and aims to support academic and research projects of common interest to both institutions.
Given the areas of competence common to both institutions, which we intend to maintain and strengthen through the AlticeLabs@UA laboratory, we are accepting applications for Academic Projects that deal, namely, with:

  • Advanced Connectivity;
  • AI‑Driven Autonomous Systems;
  • Secure & Trusted Systems;
  • Digital Experiences & Environments;
  • Defense & Dual‑Use Systems.
Professors and Researchers from the University of Aveiro, in the case of the Research Projects, and Post-graduate students (master’s degree, doctorate or post-doctorate) from any course at the University of Aveiro, in the case of the Academic Projects.
Altice Labs’ investment in the scope of Academic Projects involves providing the necessary means and infrastructure (means of communication, server hosting and access to its own content and that of Altice Labs’ partners) and know-how (collaboration in pedagogical support activities and student guidance).
Yes. In addition to applicants being able to submit a proposal for an academic project from scratch, provided that it falls within the intervention areas indicated above, they may also apply for one of the already identified and structured projects, which are available in the proposal exchange accessible here.
These projects have been previously validated by the AlticeLabs@UA selection committee.
Applications for Academic Projects will be selected if they focus on existing services within the AlticeLabs@UA Labs and if Altice Labs and the University consider them to have the greatest potential to share the University-Company experience.

The evaluation and seriation of the Academic Projects will be conducted by a committee comprising 2 representatives from the University and 2 from Altice Labs.

The result of the evaluation and seriation will be formalized through the minutes of the committee meeting and published until July 31st 2026.

Each academic project will have a researcher from the University of Aveiro as responsible appointed by the coordination and management team of AlticeLabs@UA.
The monitoring of the execution of each project will be carried out by the AlticeLabs@UA coordination and management team, with the regularity that the team considers appropriate for each project.

At the end of the project the responsible researcher shall deliver the following documents:

  • Project report containing synthesis of the activity, description of the results and complete documentation of the modules and components developed;
  • Source code, published in the repository to be designated;
  • Functional demonstration of the developed SW.
