The AlticeLabs@UA laboratory is scientifically coordinated by the University of Aveiro and Altice Labs, through a monitoring committee that defines the strategic and scientific lines to be developed in this context. Jorge Ferraz de Abreu

Associate Professor with Aggregation in the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro.

After his undergraduate and master’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunications and his participation in several European projects he joined the Department of Communication and Art, where he completed his PhD in Communication Sciences and Technologies.

He is a Professor in the New Communication Technologies Course, in the Master in Multimedia Communication and in the Doctoral Program in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms.

As a member of the DigiMedia research unit he has been the scientific coordinator of several research projects in the area of interactive TV.

Hélder José Marques Caixinha

Assistant Professor at the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro.

He has a degree in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications, a Master’s in Information Management and a PhD in Multimedia in Education from the University of Aveiro. He is Professor in the Degree in New Communication Technologies and in the Master in Audiovisual Communication for New Media, where he also assumes the role of Vice-Director.

Member of the research unit DigiMedia, with participation in the groups Games & Transmedia and Social Media & Learning. He has collaborated in several research projects, national and international, in the area of Technology-Enhanced Learning/Research.

Pedro Carvalho

Graduated in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications from the University of Aveiro in 1986, Master in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications from the University of Aveiro in 1998 and postgraduate in Business Management from the Portuguese Catholic University in 2005.

A staff member at Altice Labs (formerly PT Inovação) since 1988, he is currently responsible for the management of RDI (Research, Development and Innovation) at Altice Labs.

Ana Margarida Almeida

Graduated in New Communication Technologies from the University of Aveiro in 1998, with a PhD in Communication Sciences and Technologies from the University of Aveiro in 2006 and a pos-doc in Clinical Communication from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto in 2016.

Associated Professor at the University of Aveiro, is currently Head of Product Design, User Experience, Digital, Product Promotion and Communication, at Altice Labs, Department of Digital and Innovation Strategy.

Mário Vairinhos

Auxiliar Professor at the Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro since 2001, researcher in the area of Interaction Design and Human-Computer Interaction, with particular interest in tangible Media and Mixed Reality. He also develops Digital Art work and Museography projects in interaction design. He was co-founder and editor of Mimesis Contemporary Art journal. Graduated in 1996 in Economics from the Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra, in 2001 obtained the Master degree in Digital Arts at the School of Arts of Porto, Portuguese Catholic University. He holds a PhD in Information and Communication on Digital Plaforms from the University of Aveiro and University of Porto.

Mónica Aresta

Assistant Researcher at DigiMedia, University of Aveiro. Got her graduation in New Communication Technologies by the University of Aveiro and her Master Degree and PhD in Multimedia in Education in the same university.

Her investigation interests are related to mobile devices and mobile learning, games and education, computer-mediated communication, online communities of practice and online identity.

Paulo Antunes

With a Bachelor’s degree in Physics Engineering in 2005, a Master’s degree in Applied Physics in 2007, and a PhD in Physics Engineering in 2011, all at the University of Aveiro, in Portugal, Paulo Antunes is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the same university. As a researcher, he is also associated with I3N-Aveiro (Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodeling, and Nanofabrication) and with the Institute of Telecommunications. His research interests include the study and simulation of optical fiber sensors in silica and polymer fiber, for static and dynamic measurements, data acquisition, optical transmission systems, and sensor networks for various applications, including biomedical engineering applications and structural health monitoring.

Furthermore, he is the author and co-author of more than 180 publications in international journals, book chapters, and technical papers at conferences, with a focus on optical sensing devices and applications.

Pedro Almeida

He has a degree in New Communication Technologies from the University of Aveiro and a PhD from the same university in Communication Sciences and Technologies. He is a lecturer and supervisor in the Department of Communication and Art in the degree in New Technologies of Communication, in the Master in Multimedia Communication and in the Doctoral Programs in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms and Multimedia in Education.

As a member of the Digimedia Research Unit he develops his research in the design of new services to support entertainment and content creation (crossmedia and transmedia) for the new media. He has been responsible for several projects in the area of Interactive (Social) Television contributing to the understanding and redesign of the new television consumption ecosystem.

Pedro Beça

Auxiliary Professor at the Department of Communication and Art – University of Aveiro. Holds a degree in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering (2002), a Master’s degree in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Aveiro (2006) and a PhD in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms from the University of Aveiro and the University of Porto (2013).

His areas of interest are: use of mobile devices and participatory culture; Web and mobile applications development, especially in the design, implementation and validation stages.

Rita Oliveira

PhD Researcher at Department of Communication and Art – University of Aveiro since 2019. Is member of several research projects (national and international) and teaches some subjects in graduate and undergraduate degrees related with Accessibility, Multimedia and Communication Systems.

As a member of the DigiMedia research centre her investigation interests are related to Accessibility and Usability/UX and the design and development of interactive television services adjusted to users with special needs, namely visually impaired persons, and seniors.

After finishing her PhD in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms (2014), she was involved in several projects as researcher (2014-2015), worked as assistant Professor (2015-2016) and conducted her post-Doctoral research (2016-2018).

Rita Santos

Rita Santos is a lecturer at Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão de Águeda, Universidade de Aveiro, in the areas of Human-Computer Interaction, Web Design, Requirements and Project Management and Web Development.

He is a member of the research unit Digimedia (CIC. Digital).

His research interests are currently focused on the design and development of technologies to promote quality of life and well-being.

He is currently coordinating the project VoluntAge4Seniors, a television application that allows seniors to request support from a group of volunteers for specific tasks.

Telmo Silva

He has a PhD in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro.

He teaches curricular units in the Degree in New Communication Technologies and in the Master in Multimedia Communication. He was researcher responsible for the project +TV4E: Interactive Television as a vehicle for the diffusion of social services to support the elderly, having also participated in other research projects with funding, of which stand out: UltraTV and 2ndVision.
