Altice Labs has just been honoured by COTEC Portugal as one of the Inovadora Evolution companies, in recognition of its progress in innovating for sustainability.
In this inaugural edition of the initiative, the business association for the promotion of innovation and technological cooperation in the country, COTEC, focused on the sustainability dimension as a key factor for business competitiveness.
“The Inovadora Evolution status signals to the market the importance of good ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) risk‑management practices and companies’ commitment to future generations”, reads the association’s online page.
Now published, the results show that Altice’s innovation hub in Aveiro was one of 61 companies – among more than 1000 which, having already received the COTEC Inovadora seal in the past, were invited to apply for this new distinction – that saw their sustainability progress recognised.
Key achievements during 2023 that determined the award of the Inovadora Evolution status included:
-
100% of electricity consumption sourced from renewables
-
Use of 7 MWh of energy from self‑generation
-
28% reduction in direct greenhouse‑gas emissions at Altice Labs facilities
-
34% reduction in indirect greenhouse‑gas emissions
-
Increase in hazardous and non‑hazardous waste sent for recycling from over 10,000 kg to approximately 27,000 kg
Beyond the environmental pillar, Altice Labs’ commitment to ESG best practices also shone through in social metrics, with a reduced gender pay gap and more men than women taking family‑related leave (17 versus 11).
People and the environment are two of the pillars underlying Altice Labs’ operations, which has long been committed to balancing its activity with global goals for planet preservation and societal improvement.
Sustainability has likewise guided the manufacturing and design processes of Altice Labs’ hardware products, notably through: the incorporation of post‑consumer recycled plastic (PCR) in various devices (e.g., routers, set‑top boxes); reducing painted or glued components to facilitate plastic recycling; eliminating single‑use plastic packaging; using longer‑lasting components; reducing box volume; simplifying parts to enable easier material replacement; and enhancing repair and refurbishment processes.
Recognised for its innovative technology and its leading role in the telecommunications sector both in Portugal and worldwide, the company remains dedicated to applying that same spirit of innovation to mitigating the environmental risks facing our planet and society.
