Between September 30th and October 6th, Altice Labs participated, once again as the Main Sponsor, in the 5th edition of Aveiro Tech Week 2024, an event that brings together technology, art, and culture. Organized by the Aveiro City Council (CMA), the initiative is part of the “Aveiro 2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture” program and aims to strengthen Aveiro’s role as a technological and creative hub, offering free activities for the entire community.
The opening session, which took place at Teatro Aveirense on September 30th, featured a speech by João Machado, CMA Councilor, who welcomed and thanked all the partners involved. Paulo Firmeza, General Manager of Altice Labs, also spoke, expressing his gratitude to José Ribau Esteves, President of the CMA, and highlighting his pride in the company’s long-standing partnership with the city and the University of Aveiro. Paulo Firmeza also emphasized the contribution of the innovation and technology developed by Altice Labs to improving the city and its citizens’ quality of life.
The opening event also included speeches by Raimundo Carreiro, Brazilian Ambassador to Portugal; Paulo Jorge Ferreira, Rector of the University of Aveiro; José Ribau Esteves, President of the CMA; and Manuel Castro Almeida, Deputy Minister for Territorial Cohesion.
After the ceremony, the Praça da República was the venue for several exhibitions and demonstrations of products and solutions from partners. Altice Labs stood out with the demonstration “Altice Labs Presents the New Generation of 10 Gbps Fiber Connectivity at Aveiro Tech Week”, where it showcased a router that offers an incredible symmetrical speed of up to 10 Gbps. A gaming and streaming expert streaming specialist tested the equipment’s capacity in real time, proving its maximum speed and efficiency.

Visit of University of Aveiro Students to Altice Labs – Aveiro Tech City Open Day
In the context of the “Aveiro Tech City Open Day,” Altice Labs welcomed around 50 students from the University of Aveiro on October 2nd for a guided tour of its facilities. After an institutional presentation conducted by Vera Santos from the Human Resources department, students had the opportunity to visit the Prototype Development Laboratory, the Future Labs, and the Altice Labs Museum.
The visit culminated in a networking session in the Edifício Atlas, which included a short presentation followed by a Q&A. The session was attended by Pedro Carvalho from Altice Labs’ Innovation Strategy and Communication department and André Carvalho from the Human Resources department.
Hackathon Aveiro Tech City – Fábrica Centro de Ciência Viva
Altice Labs launched the challenge “MEDIA DIVE: New Forms of Interaction on TV with Enriched Content: A Promising Path” at the Hackathon Aveiro Tech City, which took place from September 30th to October 4th at the Fábrica Centro de Ciência Viva. Six teams were invited to explore new ways of interaction and consumption based on Altice Labs’ Media Dive platform.
Mentors Herlander Santos, Hugo Dias, Ricardo Machado, from the Mobile and New Products Incubator department, and Daniel Correia, from the Digital Platforms and Services department, were on hand to support the teams as they developed their solutions.
The event concluded with the awarding of a monetary prize of €5,000.00 (five thousand euros) to the winning team, Hacateam, composed of UA master’s students, for having created a service similar to TikTok but adapted for TV, allowing the viewing of short segments of TV content.
Iberian Meeting on Quantum Communications – Teatro Aveirense
The first Iberian Meeting on Quantum Communications was held on October 4th at the Teatro Aveirense, where academics, companies, and public entities from Portugal and Spain discussed the importance of quantum networks for the secure distribution of cryptographic keys.
Francisco Fontes and Rui Calé, from the Innovation Strategy and Communication department of Altice Labs, participated in the discussion about the interconnection of quantum networks between the two countries and their connection with the future European quantum infrastructure. Francisco Fontes highlighted the projects developed at Altice Labs, the importance of the partnership with the Instituto de Telecomunicações and emphasized that financial and organizational support is essential for expanding quantum communication projects.
Internet at the Aveiro Exhibition Pavilion
Throughout the week, Altice Labs ensured internet access at the Exhibition Pavilion, providing Wi-Fi and 10 Gbps connectivity, even to gaming computers.
