We began the year on a high note, by having another patent granted: a compact, connectable optical module with two dual 10-gigabit XGS-PON ports. This product was developed in 2021 by Cláudio Rodrigues, Paulo Mão Cheia, Joaquim Serra, Alfonso Figueiredo, Tiago Campos, and Luís Henriques from Altice Labs’ Management of Network Systems Development department. After much anticipation, the patent application has finally been granted.
This innovation allows two optical fibers to be connected to the same port of the central equipment, thus doubling the number of fiber-connected customers by simply changing the electro-optical connector where the fiber is connected in the central equipment. Compared to traditional technology, these converters developed by Altice Labs not only increase the bandwidth per physical interface of the equipment in the telecommunications central but also increase the port density per equipment.
Altice Labs regularly submits patent applications to protect and enhance its intellectual property, whether developed internally or in partnership with other entities. In 2022 alone, 12 new patent applications were filed in various areas.
