On March 15th, the 125th Tech Day was held at Altice Labs, with the theme “PON Evolutions & Home Networking”.

The first speaker was Cláudio Rodrigues, from the Network Systems Development department, who gave a presentation on “The road to 50G-PON” and framed the topic and envisioned its short-term evolution to 50G-PON, revealing some compatibility scenarios with the existing infrastructure.

The second speaker was António Teixeira, from the Telecommunications Institute (IT) in Aveiro, who gave a presentation entitled “Towards the Terabit PON”, where he discussed the transmission of higher speeds in optical transmission systems, namely through the use of more advanced modulation techniques and coherent optics.

Francisco Rodrigues, from the company PICadvanced, continued the session with a presentation on “Stepping up from X rate in PON”, giving us a perspective on the importance of integrated photonics in the evolution of optical transmission systems.

Finally, with a presentation on “Home Wireless Connectivity: the last hundred meters”, Paulo Jesus, from the Network Systems Development department, focused on the subject of high-speed LANs based on the new Wi-Fi technology standards and their implementation in the company’s solutions for this network band.
