The 7th plenary meeting of the H2020 SELFNET (Self-Organized Network Management in Virtualized and Software Defined Networks) project was held in Murcia, Spain (from the 22nd to 24th  May).

The SELFNET project has as main goal the design, implementation and prototyping of an autonomic-network management solution in a new network domain consisting of virtualized (NFV-enabled) and programmable (SDN-enabled) network functions.

The project is at the beginning of the third year and will present the first prototype to the European Commission in September. This prototype will be demonstrated from the Altice Labs infrastructure, selected as the benchmark testbed of the project, and will consist of demonstrating a self-protection use case, more specifically, in the proactive detection and mitigation of cyber attacks in 5G networks.

The participation of Altice Labs has as strategic objective to contribute to the evolution of OSS to the paradigm of autonomic-network management in 5G environments. Specifically, Altice Labs is actively involved through its fulfillment (Network Activator evolution) and assurance (ALTAIA evolution) solution. In this sense, Altice Labs was represented at the meeting by a multidisciplinary team, namely elements of the Network Activator (Fulfillment OSS) product area, elements of the ALTAIA (Assurance OSS) product area and elements of the Architecture & Solutions Innovation area.

Also within the SELFNET project, Altice Labs contributed to the whitepaper “Cognitive Network Management for 5G” published by the 5GPPP group “Network Management and QoS”, part of the European Commission’s H2020 initiative.
