With less than three years from the first commercial exploitations planned for 5G, and considering the high expectations for this technology, it is important to know it better, share knowledge and experience and, above all, identify opportunities and challenges associated with it.

The first workshop held within the scope of the activities of Altice Labs’ 5G Lab, aimed to respond to these needs and it was attended by representatives from the academia (Aveiro University and Telecommunications Institute), industry (Ericsson and Inovaria), operators (PT / MEO and Altice Labs), regulation (ANACOM), transversal organizations (TICE.PT cluster) and local government (Aveiro City Council), who, in the final debate, discussed why and how to transform Aveiro into the first 5G city in Portugal.

From the several presentations made, it was possible to understand which use cases the 5G will allow and its state of maturity. From the final debate, the conclusion was unanimous: Aveiro has all the conditions to become the first 5G city in Portugal, being a differentiating factor for the city, advantageous to citizens, local institutions and visitors.
