Altice Labs marked its first year of existence. The organization of the event, over the two days, included a general meeting of collaborators, an Ideation session, a public session, two inaugurations, a protocol signature, play activities and a set of visits to the company’s laboratories.

Alexandre Fonseca, CTO of PT, left a word of recognition to the collaborators, for their commitment and dedication in transforming this project into a reference. “We joined the academy, joined our technological partners, joined the startups, joined our clients, all the operators of the Altice Group and, together, working in an integrated way we will continue to produce innovation that makes a difference, creates value”.

Alcino Lavrador shared with the collaborators some of the achievements of 2016, highlighting MEO, the OLT with integrated RF, the launch of 4K applications, and MEO Go Windows 10, the expansion in existing clients such as Oi and the conquest of new markets of which India is an example. Also in the Altice ecosystem there were several cases of value creation. “A year ago, in January, we had only 2 ongoing projects in the Altice Group. Today, we have 17 projects in progress, 3 are in preparation and there is a remarkable set of other opportunities. It was a track record. But we must continue this path of maintaining the confidence that Altice has in Altice Labs.

He also stated that “A year ago, in Aveiro, the commitment to a symbol of innovation for the Altice Group and for the World was strengthened: Altice Labs. A year later, the commitment and confidence in this strategic asset proved to be right. Today, Altice Labs is present in the daily lives of 250 million people. Currently, several operations within the Altice Group, namely USA, France, Israel, Dominican Republic and Martinique, but also abroad, as in India, Russia and Brazil, import portuguese technology from Altice Labs“.

At the same time, while demonstrating its ability to bring the best of Portuguese technology to the world, Altice Labs launched the Future Lab, a space open to the community for rapid experimentation and prototyping of new concepts, technologies and trends.

Altice Labs also launched the RDI Lab, a space for dissemination and research, development and exploratory innovation that currently revolves around strategic themes such as Cloud technologies (computing and networking), Smart Living, Internet of Things , Big Data, Security & Privacy, Digital Services & Platforms, 5G and Future Networks, including the optical evolution framework.

As part of Altice Labs’ first anniversary celebrations, a memorandum of understanding was signed with Ericsson to accelerate 5G. This partnership will enable the Altice Group to take a leading position in terms of innovation in this area, alongside other European partners and will put Europe at the forefront of 5G. The commitment in this area is to stimulate joint research and development activities, debates, pilots and equipment demonstrations and 5G applications.

Present at this anniversary ceremony of Altice Labs was also Michel Combes, CEO of the Altice Group. And his first words are of pride for the “extraordinary journey” that Altice Labs made this year. “Altice is committed to Portugal, with its economic development and growth and in delivering top quality service and products to all“.
