Description
The NG-PON2 project aims to create a NG-PON2 network solution consisting of the innovative components: OLT NG-PON2 and ONT NG-PON2, that should evolve from current 2,5 Gbps to 40 Gbps downstream and from 1,25 Gbps to 10 Gbps upstream.

Objectives
Given the new challenges faced by NGN, particularly regarding the need to increase bandwidth to accommodate more content and new types of services, a major evolution, from the current standardized GPON and XGPON to NG-PON2 technologies, is expected. In other words: evolving from the current 2.5 Gbps to 40 Gbps downstream and 1.25 Gbps to 10 Gbps upstream.
Within this context, the present project aims to create a NG-PON2 network solution consisting of innovative components OLT NG-PON2 and ONT NG-PON2, endowed with highly complex features and components in terms of management.

Expected Results

  • Development of an NGPON2 OLT at 40 Gbit / s (4 x 10 Gbit / s) in the downstream and 10 Gbit / s (4 * 2.5 Gbit / s) in the upstream;
  • Development of an NGPON2 ONT at 10 Gbit / s in the downstream and 2.5 Gbit / s in the upstream;
  • Development of optical multi wavelength transceivers at high bit rate;
  • Coexistence with current GPON & XGPON networks.
