Technologies and Platform IoT/M2M, data models

Context

The area of Smart Cities has been growing a lot in the last few years and it is foreseen to grow even more in the near future. The concept is associated with the vision of a harmonised and sustainable development of a City which integrates in a secure way multiple IT and communication technologies and data sources. The objective is one hand improve the life of citizens by making available to them services and information which can help in their daily lives and in their decisions related to the multiple city services (e.g. transportation, traffic, energy) and on the other improve the quality and efficiency of the provided services reducing at the same time costs and consumption. In summary, the intention of building smart cities is to bring citizens and governance closer in order to help in a sustainable manner. To accomplish this objective, cities need to collect information and get add-value from it. The objective of this project is to develop and evolve an IoT/M2M platform capable of collecting information from very different data sources (sensors and gateways) and efficiently manage the aggregation, analysis and historical records.

This project intends to study the IoT/M2M technologies and develop modules to improve an IoT/M2M platform.
