MEO HbbTV

Context

Currently it’s possible to access a wide range of interactive features on a MEO STB. However, MEO Fibra customers without STB have access only to the channels. Latest versions of connected TVs include an environment for the development of interactive TV applications based on the HbbTV standard (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV), which are basically developed in HTML / CSS / Javascript.
This project aims to prototype a HbbTV application for Connected TV and the corresponding DVB support (AIT table - Application Information Table) to allow broadband interactivity on a channel received via DTT, in order to mimic some of the MEO features (for example MEO Kids) directly on a Connected TV with HbbTV support.

Project objectives

• Development of HbbTV application prototype for TDT Digital (Digital Freeview) to signal the “Press Red” and launch interactive HTML5 applications.
• Study of the HbbTV ecosystem / AIT.
• Scenario specification.
• Development of HTML/CSS/Javascript application.

Key skills required

• Knowledge of digital TV.
• Good proficiency on HTML/CSS/Javascript development.
