Embedded SW development and administration

Context

The trainee will be integrated in the Management and Control embedded software for network devices development team, with focus for the G.fast and xPON technologies product lines.
The proposed project envisages the research, design and development of embedded administration and monitoring processes for each network device on our product portfolio. Such processes include auditing (registering, retrieving, filtering), diagnostic (processes, HW) and device performance.

Project objectives

The proposed Project is part of the Connectivity working group activities, where complete solutions for access, aggregation and transport networks are development, starting with PCB design up to the centralized management & operations platforms.ALB is actively developing the NG-PON2 technology being a pioneer in the industry.
Our current portfolio has a wide range of network devices and SW solutions and components, each with a specific role (e.g. mediation layer, protocol adapter, etc). All these components complement each other to allow both the devices (embedded SW) and AGORA (the centralized management platform), to work as expected exposing all the necessary interfaces and behavior. Each device is a small computation platform running the abovementioned processes on an embedded OS under limited HW resources. Monitoring features are required to provide feedback on the health of this running environment, creating reports and raising alerts when justified. The purpose of this project is to study the relevant performance metrics and comparison methods, as well as monitoring processes and tools, over Linux OS, for the existing HW and SW components. Self-healing algorithms could be developed as a automatic reaction to detected problems and deviations. Auditing information tools and mechanisms are also relevant within the scope of the project.
