Altice Labs held another TechDay@Altice Labs on the 17th July, under the theme “Agile Methodologies”. The relevance of this theme is due to the imperative need that organizations have to respond quickly and with quality to market demands, and agile methodologies seek to respond to this need by continuously delivering value to the customer.

Mike Sousa, from kununu, was the keynote speaker of this session, who briefly presented the origin of Agile, its manifesto and principles, some of the methodologies that correspond to these principles, as well as the benefits to be gained from their application. He also talked about the mindset change and composition of an agile team, its characteristics and values, and presented a set of practical advice to start using agile methodologies in an organization.

This was followed by a presentation by Hugo Pais, from Farfetch, which was focused on a practical case of using Scrum in a Farfetch cluster. This practical example has shown the weaknesses of a traditional approach and how Scrum can address these issues by setting shorter, more accurately planned goals, and focusing on continually improving that planning to ensure not only delivering value to the customer but a more cohesive, motivated and focused team.

Ricardo Mestre, from Ricardo Mestre, Lda., talked about Kanban, a methodology that allows to visualize the tasks workflow and the project status. With this methodology it is possible to control the number of backlog tasks, in execution and already completed, obtaining a very precise view of the effective project evolution.

Finally, Ricardo Fernandes, from Nokia, presented SAFe - Scaled Agile Framework, giving an example of the implementation of this framework in Nokia's development and delivery processes.
