The first decentralized pole of Altice Labs was inaugurated on the 7th December 2018 and the chosen city for this launch was Viseu. Active part of the country's innovation ecosystem, Altice Labs works in partnership with universities, R&D institutions, partners, suppliers and customers, continually engaging in collaborative research, development and innovation projects in a sustained technology leadership strategy.

To Alexandre Fonseca, "this decentralization process, which we started about a year ago, leads us to already have three laboratories in our portfolio. We chose Viseu first, which we inaugurate today, we chose Ribeira Brava, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, and we chose Algarve". These are the country’s first three regions that are the target of investment and creation of scientific and technological research projects, but they will not be the only three regions, says the Executive President of Altice Portugal. "This process of bringing innovation to the national territory is something that we will continue to do because we continue to value not only investment and innovation, but also the proximity to the territory and people." He further states that "Altice Labs is a true reference of what is being done in innovation in Portugal and in the world. Altice Labs reflects our entrepreneurial spirit at Altice, our innovation DNA, our unceasing quest for talent and also for knowledge”.

With this inauguration, Viseu becomes the first city in the country with a pole of Altice Labs, already with solutions that are world premieres.

Altice Labs Viseu will be Altice Portugal's end-to-end lab for Smart Cities focusing on utility projects for cities of the future through the development of innovative radio equipment (sensors, probes and gateways) that enable data collection using LoRa and NB-IoT technologies, as well as Wi-Fi service, in a world premiere innovation.

On the inauguration day, Cláudio Rodrigues, from the Network Systems Development department, presented the first prototypes developed at Altice Labs Viseu, with focus on the IoT Gateway, with NB-IoT, Lora, WiFi and uplink technology in GPON and 4G (5G in the future) and the only one on the market for the management and control of IoT devices, and the portable NB-IoT probe for quality analysis of the NB-IoT network.
